Day 1 - Pick up from hotels in Phuket then drive north over the bridge to the mainland province of Phangnga, passing rubber plantations and small villages en route. Travel inland then cross over the rain forest covered mountain pass to Khao Sok. A thousands years ago this was an important trade route between India and China. Khao Sok is part of the largest area of rainforest in Southern Thailand, the scenery is spectacular, and jungle covered Limestone Mountains and pure nature. One of the best ways to experience the jungle is on a canoe trip down the Sok River in inflatable canoes. A local river guide paddles the canoe and is expert at spotting any animals along the way. Pass mountains and cliffs covered in exotic tropical vegetation along the banks of the river. Birds such as kingfisher, heron, egret, various reptiles and even wild monkeys live in this area. The scenery is some of the best in Southern Thailand and what better way to see it than from a canoe. A buffet lunch of Thai dishes cooked not too spicy is provided. Day 2 Wake up on the edge of the jungle, sometimes the surrounding hills are covered in mist which slowly melts away as the sun comes up and gibbons can often be heard making their territorial calls high up in the rainforest canopy. Take a leisurely breakfast at the resort then its time to explore Cheo Larn lake by local boat. The lake was formed when Rhajaprabhar dam was built about 20 years to provide water for a hydro electric power plant. The lake is about 60 km from north to south and contains more than 100 hundred islands. There are many mountains and cliffs covered in rainforest forming very spectacular natural scenery and combined with its remoteness make a very unique jungle area to explore. It is similar to the landscape in Halong bay in Vietnam or Guaylin in China. In the 70 's the area was used as a hide out by communist and students fighting against the government which was a military dictatorship at that time. As well as exploring the lake by boat depending on the weather it may be possible to trek to a mountain view point or visit some of the caves that were used as refuges by the communists.Lunch is provided. In the late afternoon return to the jungle resort for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Breakfast at the resort then time to see how the local Thai village people live. Although both to the north and south of the resort are large areas of rainforest, running east to west is a the main road from Surat Thani to Takuapa and the Sok river that starts in the jungle at Khao Sok and flows about 100 km to the sea at Surat Thani. The road and river cut a narrow strip through the jungle and people have settled beside them to cultivate rubber trees, oil palm and coffee plantations as well as tropical fruit gardens such as rambutans, mongosteens, papaya, limes, bananas and some mountain rice. The day will be spent seeing how the local people live and work and the crops that they grow. There may be time to explore some caves, visit a local village temple and take a coffee break at one of the local's homes. The itinerary varies according to the season and weather on the day.
